Facebook Tips for Authors
No Facebook for authors tip list is complete without considering the risks, vulnerabilities and the questions posted on part 1 and part 2 of this series.
Below are some helpful tips to get authors the best outcome from their Facebook presence.
-
Create a Personal Page and a Fan Page
Every author must have a personal page and a fan page. These pages are sorted into different categories on Facebook. Categories, such as, business pages, personal pages, virtual events, etc. A business page can’t be created without you first signed up for a personal Facebook page.
The business page should contain your name as the author and not your book title. All books written should be managed by that author’s on a centralized place.
-
Link Facebook to Your Website.
Place the Facebook “like” button on your Website so that readers can “like” your page to view posts in their news feeds. Likewise, promote your Website on your Facebook page.
-
Be Responsive
Your fans will like to talk to you personally and not just to read your post. Whenever they comment on your post, ensure you give a prompt response. Constant interaction with fans endears them to you and makes them return for more. Add a personal and empathetic feel to your conversations with your readers.
-
Post Often and Consistently
The number of times and days you should post on Facebook each week is not cast in stone. Although, it’s ideal to post at least 3-5 times a week, you can choose what works best for you based on your time and availability. But, whichever times you choose, be consistent with it.
There are several tools which help to automate posting on Facebook, all you need is to schedule your posts. This saves you the times and also minimizes the incident of you forgetting to post.
Aside from helping in scheduling your posts, if you remain logged in to these tools you will be able to catch and respond to comments quickly.
Many writers also create a theme for each day of the week to help keep their message consistent. For instance, you can tag it #FunFridays, whereby you post something on the lighter note—like a funny meme. Hashtags could also improve the visibility of your posts as well as posts you follow. Try to use unique hashtags that have not been used by someone else.
