Frequently Asked QuestionsFrequently Asked Questions

At Briggs & Schuster we are upfront and transparent with all our customers. For this reason we devised a number of Frequently Asked Questions that may help you self-serve and get the answers you seek. These FAQs are typically added to the contract or book proposal we provide to our customer base. Our main goal is to keep you informed and make the publishing process as enjoyable as it can be. With all that said, if you can’t find here the answer you are seeking, please email us and we will be happy to answer any questions.

How much will I make for each book sold?

The actual income from each book sold depends on a number of factors including but not limited to:

  • The price you are selling your book.
  • The percentage you are paying to the retail stores. (Typically 35% to 65%)
  • The contract you have with your publisher. (Typically $1 per book printed)
  • The format of your book – EBooks, Printed Softcover, Printed Hardcover and Audiobooks. (I.e. ebooks and audiobooks do not carry printing costs therefore if sold for the same price and retail percentage as a printed copy, the profit margins are higher.)

We have published books in which the author makes as little as $4 or as much as $18 per book sold.*

Will Briggs & Schuster handle all aspects of the publishing process for me?

Yes. We will handle every aspect of the publishing process for you; editing, page design and typesetting, cover design, printing, distribution, copyright registration, press release creation and distribution, and royalty management. Most importantly – we do all of this for only a minimal investment on your part and $1 per book printed or sold.

Who owns the copyright of the books you publish?

The author retains all rights, ownership and responsibilities. We just do all the work on your behalf.

Will my book be available in international markets?

Yes. Our wide distribution system will have your book available globally (U.S., Spain, France, Australia, Germany, U.K., Brazil, Mexico, India, etc.)

Where are you located? Can I visit your offices?

Although our mailing address is in New York City, NY. We have a completely digitized process and therefore no longer have a need for a physical office. If you would like to meet in person, we can arrange a representative to meet you by teleconferencing or at a local bookstore or library.

I previously published my book elsewhere. Can I switch to Briggs & Schuster Publishing?

Yes. We re-publish previously published work. We can also correct any errors that occurred during the prior publication process and work to improve your book by redesigning the cover if needed, or embarking on an enhanced marketing campaign.

Will I get physical copies of my book?

Yes. We will print you copies of your book for free. You just pay the shipping. The number of books you will receive depends on your contract. The books we print and send you are not just for your own private use and distribution to friends and family, these books can be sold for a larger profit. In this unique to BSA process, you can recover your book investment very quickly and buy books at wholesale cost plus the publishing fee of $1 per book.

What’s the break-even number for recovering my investment on book publishing with BSA?

200 – 300 books. That’s it.

What do you need to review my book?

We require at least one chapter of your book. However, a completed manuscript typed in almost any digital format is preferable. If your manuscript is typed the old-fashioned way or handwritten, we can still review it. We accept PDFs, Microsoft Word, or any other text editor program files. If you have your manuscript in a different format, just let us know – chances are we can work with it.

Do you accept every author in every genre?

No. We focus our production on novels, how-to, religious, poetry, and young adults. If your book type is not listed here, drop us a line. We may still be able to work together.

How long will it take to publish my book?

We will have your book printed in 3 months. That’s 3 months from the day you agreed with the contract, paid the book production fee and provided a completed manuscript. This timeline does not include any changes to the manuscript, acts of God, issues outside the publisher’s control.

Where will my book be sold?

We utilize the same distribution system as the big five publishers in the USA. We publish and distribute through all retail bookstores, such as Barnes and Noble, Books-a-Million, etc. But we also distribute through online platforms such as Amazon.com, Apple’s iTunes store, the Amazon Kindle store, Google Play, and Barnes & Noble online.

How do I make payments and how do I get paid?

We receive and make all payments via PayPal. So it is easy to see all your transactions and royalty payments in one place.

How long does it take to get paid for books sold?

Assuming that your books are set as non-returnable. Payments are always 3 months and 10 days behind. (i.e. If you sell a book on January 1, by March 31 we will receive payment from the distributors and within 10 days we make payments to all authors.)

What if I find an error on my printed book?

In the unlikely case that there’s an error in a book published by us, if the error is ours, we will correct the error immediately and send the updated file to the distributors at no cost. If the error is not ours (i.e. Manuscript change needed) Upon receiving your updated manuscript with the correction(s), we will estimate how many hours it will take to make the correction, distributor re-submission costs and send it to you for your final approval. Once you approve and payment is made, we will make the correction, send it to you for your final approval and then re-submit the book file to the distribution system.
